April 20, 2004 - Pictures from December 2003

This update's pictures might have been forgotten had I not left myself a note in my web software. As you can tell from the title above, these pictures are more than a quarter of a year old. When I finished the last update I must have known that I would forget what I had waiting for me here on my computer. I sometimes upload pictures way ahead of when I write these updates, so in December I wrote in "Insert all pictures from December 4 onwards" on the blank page that would become the next update. Well just now I opened up this program to find that note...I had, indeed, forgotten all about these pictures! The point of my story, and I do have one, is that keeping up with this website might be a pain in the butt sometimes, but at least I plan ahead!

So the first set of pictures I'm posting today are from a trip up to the top of Mount Seymour with Jason. It's not really much of a "trip" since we live at the base of the mountain, but it seems a world away. Down where people actually live, and throughout Greater Vancouver, there was absolutely no snow. We drove 15 minutes up to the top of the mountain, and it was like a set out of some Winter Wonderland movie:

How gorgeous is that? Turns out that they were opening to skiers for the season the next day, so everything was getting set - they were testing the lifts, clearing the paths and so forth.

But Murphy, Jason and I weren't there to ski, we were there to just play in the snow. And play in the snow Murphy did! Below we have Jason and Murphy just after our arrival:

Doesn't he look calm? At this point you must be thinking; "What a sweet dog that Murphy is! He'll have a lovely wander through the snowy fields." You should know Murphy better than that by now! Below, maybe you can see foreshadowing on Jason's face:

That is not the look of someone who would be content winding calmly through snowy fields. And Murphy, as you can see from his feet being airborne in the above shot, is just the kind of dog who will gladly go along with someone who wants to really *romp* in the snow. Initially Murphy wasn't too messy:

He was wearing "sport boots" as his shaggy hair between his toes collects snow balls so quickly. At any rate, at this point, when we'd been walking for all of, oh...90 seconds, Jason wanted to see how Murphy would like the deeper snow:

Now, were I Murphy, I wouldn't enjoy being up to my bare belly in a snow bank. However, Murphy was a huge fan of this. But Murphy enjoyed crouching (note the icicles on his chin):

...lying down...

...leaping...

...and doing some sort of downward dog yoga pose in the snow:

Murphy had plenty of energy, and kept on romping with great elan...

Can you believe the sport boots stayed on this whole time? In fact, lots of stuff hung on to Murphy, specifically the snow:

But overall we had a great time. Vancouver can be a hard city to experience Christmas in - it feels like spring year round around here, a lot of the time. So this little hour long wander around a couple of trails up on Mount Seymour really helped herald in the Christmas season for us.

And that's the topic of our next update: Christmas 2003!
