Murphy's Newsletter
January/February/March 2008

In January Allie and Owen came up to Vancouver for a visit. I hadn't seen Owen since his birthday in November, at which time he was just barely walking. By January he was scampering around everywhere! Below you have Owen playing on my computer while Murphy supervises:

Next we have Owen checking out Murphy's rollaball, while Murphy keeps a hold on Patches. He seems to be saying; "You can have that toy, but Patches is mine!". Murphy is actually really good at sharing his toys with Owen, and vice versa. We've just gotten back from a visit with them (which will be featured in the next update) and they got along fantastically. One time Murphy was playing with his rollaball, rolling it along with his nose, when Owen reached over and picked the ball up. Murphy didn't even look at Owen, he just turned around and walked away. Murphy even shared Patches with Owen. And Owen doesn't mind one bit when Murphy goes into his nursery and emerges with one of his stuffies in his mouth.

But back to January. Murphy loves when Allie and Owen come to visit as Owen brings all sorts of stuff with him, which all have interesting smells, and there's always food around. And he has always loved Allie, so he's overjoyed when she walks through our door. Below we have Murphy supervising in the kitchen, and getting a hug from Allie:

After Owen had explored my place (the last time he'd been up here he wasn't walking yet) he and I settled in for a little story:

After a few minutes Murphy could no longer resist the urge to come investigate:

Owen looks annoyed, but he just laughed Murphy's kisses off.

Now, onto February. It was a really low key month, nothing too exciting going on. So here are a few pictures of us lounging around the house. Murphy and I watched the Superbowl (pretty much the only time I ever watch American football):

Murphy finds sports about as interesting as I do:

While watching, I made some muffins, and Murphy had to bring me the oven mitt, to make sure I was baking safely of course!

Though I'm not too sure what he was doing in the bedroom with it:

On to March! The most exciting thing that happened in March was Murphy finally getting a haircut. I'd been delaying 'til his belly improved after those new foods we tried that turned out to have berries or potato flour in them. As a birthday present to myself I got him groomed - home grooms had become a daily ordeal at that point. Here's the before:

And the after:

He looks like a cocker again, and not a baby bear! Unfortunately we had a cold snap in March, and with so much of his hair gone Murphy, for the first time I can remember, felt really cold, even inside the house. The only clothes I have for Murphy are the costumes for his various Christmas cards, so I had to improvise:

It's an old sweater of mine that had shrunk, as well as developing a small hole in the arm. I'd planned to give it away to charity, but luckily it was still hanging in the charity bag in my closet. I'd expected Murphy to run away and not even let me put it on him, but he seemed quite pleased with it. My Mom did some alterations so that it would fit him better:

The picture above is a little blurry, but you get the idea. Here it is from the front:

Finally, I caught on camera a behaviour that Murphy sometimes does when I'm sitting at the computer or tv. I see him wander into the bedroom, then I see him peek back around at me. Frankly, it can be a little eerie to turn around and see him sitting there staring at me!

So that's it for winter of 2008. Next up is our trip to Seattle to see Allie, Jason and Owen, as well as my friend Krista and her son Luc. Lots of pictures in that one, so get ready!
