Murphy's Newsletter
August 14, 2003
So this update, following so closely on
the previous one, is going to be mostly pictures. With Jason's
help Murphy has made great strides when it comes to swimming.
Earlier this week Jason and I both waded into the river to the
point where Murphy would have to swim, and then called Murph
in. We both had treats in hand and Murphy willingly swam back
and forth between us. Now Murph just needs to see that I have
a treat, and in he comes to me. Below we have a montage of pictures
from yesterday, showing just how much Murphy now swims! And check
out how clear the water is. Nice and warm these days too.
He's a little unsure at first...
...but then he gets a little bolder
and starts swimming...
...look at him go! And check out
the tail, he's even waggling as he swims.
Back the other way...
...I love how all his fur floats
up around his sides...
...and after a minute or two he
heads back to shore...
...and walks out on to the rocks.
Now back in the river, Murphy poses
on a rock for me...
...this one shows just how sunny
it was today.
Here's Murphy heading for a different
part of the river,
that turns to the left and drops a bit...
...check out how this area has
been reshaped by park users, who've created the little calm pool
in the centre left of the picture.
Now Murphy is in the section of
the river after the dip, which you can see across the top of
the picture below. See the channels? Those have all been created
by people who swim in the river. It's pretty cool, actually,
to see what they've done.
Now we're at a different section
of the river, further upstream. This is a favourite area for
dogs and their people, and sometimes some kids too.
And now we're even further upstream,
and out of the river, obviously. I realized today that I don't
have any pictures showing what this whole park used to be - a
garbage dump! See the hill that Murphy's coming down? That's
all garbage. Even just back a couple of decades this was our
town's dump, right next to a river.
