Hello All!

Murphy lying on my books

Ok, I know I promised an update by May 11, but all my classes caught up with me, so this had to be put on hold. The good news is that all the marks I've gotten back so far are A+, and that I've finished all the courses now. The bad news is that I think I've annoyed the staff there so much, with my constant phoning about their mistakes in the course materials, that I don't think they're going to want me in their school!

Looking sad on the chairAnyway, on to Murphy stuff. We start with some pictures of what Murphy got up to while I was studying madly. Above is him lying on my books, determined to get some attention. He would do this every single time he came up to my bedroom to find me studying. Even if I was sitting right there in front of my books, he'd plunk himself down on top of them. He also enjoyed chewing my eraser.

To your left is Murphy looking very dejected, as I'd left him all alone to go study in the living room. Poor thing has to snooze in the big comfy chair while monster Meghan studies. I'm terribly cruel to him.

Below we have the Murphy-chin-on-knee-beg that he's perfected over the past year or so. You never truly understand the term "puppy dog eyes" til you've seen Murphy the Master at work. Needless to say I must have been eating something at the time.

Next we have three pictures of Murphy with my father. The one on the left is Murphy getting an impromptu styling after I'd bathed him. Murphy is quite good about baths and hair dryers. I'm not sure if my father blows him dry so that Murphy doesn't get cold, or if he does it so that his carpets don't get all wet. Then to the right we have Murphy watching my father barbeque. Being a vegetarian, I don't give Murphy any meat. So he gets all excited when my father barbeques, knowing that he's going to get something juicy!

Snoozing with Craig

The photo above shows my father all sprawled out on the couch, with Murphy all sprawled out on the floor. Struck me as a cute shot. My father insists that he and my mother aren't going to get a dog when I move out. Judging by how much he fusses over Murphy...I give him 6 months with a dog free household before they go in search of a puppy.

While we're still in the kitchen, I'll show you where Murphy likes to snooze:

Why he likes to tangle himself in the blinds, I'll never know. I think this is just the furthest away he can get while staying in the room with us. It's sort of like a den.

Speaking of dens, here's Murphy's newest creation: a bunk bed!

Murphy has always liked climbing up on things, so this shouldn't have come as a surprise to me. I keep one of his pillows on top of his crate, so that inside his crate he has an area with a pillow (the comfy spot for him to lie on), and an area without (the cooler spot, if he gets too warm). So Murphy has put two and two together, and has taken to clambering up on top of his crate for naps. To me this is unbearably cute.

Murphy in his rainsuitAlso terribly cute is Murphy in his new rain suit. I looked all over the internet for a suit that would protect Murphy from all the twigs and brambles he picks up whenever we go hiking. I'd seen such an outfit on Alfons, a dog whose owner belongs to the same online cocker spaniel group as me. Unfortunately, Alfons lives in Sweden, so it's not like I could just pop over to the store where Ingrid had bought his outfit. So I hunted and hunted online, coming up with nothing. All the raincoats just covered the dog's back, not his legs and chest. So I ended up going to Mountain Equipment Co-op, a huge outdoors related store. I found a kids rain suit, and bought the biggest size hoping it would fit, and that we could tailor it to suit Murphy. Unfortunately, it still wasn't big enough for him. So I restarted my hunt online.

After linking through a thousand sites I found Neopaws. They not only make boots, life jacket and hats, they make just the type of rain suit I wanted! I phoned them, chatted with the owner, and she sent Murphy his rain suit right away. I had to order a large as that's the smallest size they It's reflective!had in stock. My mom tailored it to fit Murphy, and now it's just right. You can barely see him in the photo to the left due to the reflective strip down the side. The suit is perfect, it closes along the back with a long strip of velcro, and it's not so tight that it will cause mats. Murphy is getting used to it around the house, though he's not particularly thrilled with it. We haven't had a chance to use it yet as I've been to busy studying to take him on a long (muddy) hike.

Next, we have Murphy surfing the net with Allie. I can't remember if they were looking for anything in particular, but you can see that Murph is quite the accomplished typist!

Below is Murphy unmaking my bed. This is one of his favourite pastimes in my bedroom. He just heads up to the top of the bed, sticks his head under the covers, and starts wiggling, turning, and biting at the covers. It takes him less than 10 seconds to get all the covers to the bottom of the bed. Now, if I could get him to do this in reverse, so that while I'm brushing my teeth in the morning, he's pulling the bed together...then we'd really have something!

Snacking on the covers

Murphy's other bed related activities include wriggling under the covers to nip at my feet (while his bum waggles right in my face) and lying on the floor at the foot of the bed eating the corner of the duvet. I've got to say that I'm really not too keen on any of these activities. But it does make for some comic relief!

Home | Latest news | From the beginning | Origins | What kind of dog is that? | Colours of cockers | Cocker linksFinally we have the "Murphy Sneer". He does this lip curl thing when he's getting a particularly good scratch. Sometimes he adds a yawn and a deep throaty "Rrruh rrruh rrruh" to it. I laugh every time I see the sneer, it just strikes me as so goofy and almost human.

So that's it, I'm all caught up! I haven't taken too many pictures lately as my mother was in Ireland with my camera. Unfortunately the docking station got fried over there (despite the reassurances by the supposedly camera knowledgeable staff where we bought the camera that she could just use a simple converter while overseas). So, I haven't uploaded anything recent. But no doubt with my courses finished I'll get back into camera mode soon.
